How Does Coaching Help?

In recent years, we’ve seen an alarming trend: headteachers and leaders leaving the profession in droves. The demands of educational leadership can be overwhelming, impacting both professional performance and personal wellbeing.

Leadership coaching enhances performance by concentrating on specific objectives and leveraging individuals’ strengths; fostering confidence; resourcefulness; and motivation. Coaching is not just a lifeline for those feeling overwhelmed—it’s a powerful tool for all education leaders seeking to excel.

  • Enhancing performance
  • Unlocking your full potential
  • Making the job more manageable
  • Safeguarding your physical and mental wellbeing

Why Choose Us?

As a (very recent) former headteacher who successfully navigated:

  • Leading a school through an impending Ofsted inspection
  • Balancing work with raising two children under two

I bring a unique perspective to leadership coaching. While every leader’s journey is different, I understand the pressures you face and the skills needed to thrive.

I take on the role of a ‘thinking partner’ and create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can fully immerse yourself in your best strategic thinking.

“When you build a coaching habit, you can break out of three vicious circles that plague our workplaces: creating overdependence; getting overwhelmed; and becoming disconnected.” Michael Bungay Stanier, The Coaching Habit

Coaching sessions can be held virtually or in person (either at your place of work; a neutral location; or on site with us here).

What’s stopping you?

I don’t have time.

By allowing yourself the opportunity to step back and think strategically, you will save a vast amount of time that you would otherwise waste with your head down in the furrow ticking tasks off your to-do list. Engaging in coaching is a time multiplier (and we all need some of that).

I can’t afford to have a coach. My budget is already stretched.

If you are facing problems with your budget, that’s all the more reason to engage. You will need to think creatively and analytically about the most effective use of resources at a time when school budgets are increasingly strained. Our response: “You can’t afford not to.”

I’ve been a leader for (umpteen!) years. I know what I’m doing.

We don’t doubt that for a second. There’s every chance you are a far more knowledgeable and skilled leader than us. We’re not there to tell you how to do your job. No matter how brave, talented, confident and effective you are, having a highly-skilled and compassionate thinking partner will have substantial benefits. Opening yourself up to coaching is not a sign of weakness – it’s a sign of wisdom.

Early Headship Instructional Coaching

Headteachers who are new to role are some of the bravest, skilled and well-trained individuals in any sector. Even so, the complexities of the role are such that all new heads owe it to themselves to ensure they have robust ongoing support in those initial stages. In our experience, headteacher induction is often an afterthought. It is narrow in its scope, patchy, or in some cases, non-existent.

We establish early headship coaching programs that pair experienced individuals with less experienced ones to facilitate their learning and development, cultivate their strengths and make sure they hit the ground running. This is invaluable leadership development for headteachers within the first five years of headship.

  • Half a day of in-school support each term to provide a practical follow up on the school-specific problems and solutions identified in the coaching session
